National Soccer Day is here and what better to do than a trip down memory lane. From our Inaugural Home Opener to Brandon Cambridge's brace that created a comeback win against Chicago Fire, relive a few of Charlotte FC’s most electric moments on the pitch.
The day Charlotte became a soccer city - the Carolinas showed up and led Charlotte FC to break the MLS Single-Match Attendance record with 74,479 fans in Bank of America Stadium.
Best celebration in MLS history?! Yes. Karol scored an emphatic goal and celebrated by running up the famed steps to the throne to party with supporters (he may have caused some damage along the way but we won’t tell). This match was one of Charlotte FC’s biggest wins in history, as they went on to beat Nashville SC 4-1.
The moment 16-year-old academy player Brian Romero took the field against Premier League legends Chelsea FC was a moment we will never forget. As Brian Romero was announced, the crowd went wild and tears welled in people’s eyes. The dream of dreams. Days later, Brian would be announced as our first-ever Homegrown signing.
It was the comeback of comebacks. Charlotte was down 2-0 at half. Captain Karol scored two of three goals in the second half to lift The Crown to victory against Chicago, and it was one to remember.
Charlotte FC Rookie, Brandon Cambridge had only played 18 total minutes in his MLS career. The second time he stepped on the pitch at Bank of America Stadium, he scored not only his first MLS goal, but made it a brace, to clinch the W and secure 3 points for The Crown in great comeback fashion. It was the second largest comeback win in team history. Brandon Cambridge would be named Player of the Matchday, the first player to earn the honor in both MLS and MLS NEXT Pro in the same season.
