As Charlotte FC has continued to grow its presence in the MLS, there have been consistent pieces throughout its rise in the ranks.
Since the inaugural season, Brandt Bronico has been included in that conversation. And with the signing of his new contract, this statement remains true.
The mayor's heart has always been here in North Carolina. He grew up in Charlotte and played his collegiate years at UNC Charlotte. Post-college, Chicago Fire FC selected him in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft with the 47th pick. As his love for the game continued to grow, he could only dream of playing professional soccer back in his hometown.
That dream became real when Charlotte FC became the 30th franchise in the MLS on December 17, 2019.
With his acquisition via trade from Chicago Fire FC on December 18, 2020, Brandt came back home to live out his childhood dream. Since then, he has been the Club's longest active tenured player. His new contract, which runs through 2027 with a player option in 2028, allows him to continue making more history in his hometown.
His presence has been felt on and off the pitch, and EVERYONE has taken notice.
His commitment to growth and excellence has been a consistent factor to The Crown and shows why he has been a mainstay in the squad. Here are some numbers for Brandt's impact:
And the FIRST player to achieve 100 appearances for the club.
This season, Brandt has been having a strong showing for the Club, with a career-best two goals and 4 assists in 31 games played, 28 in which he has started.
And with moments like this...
His extension continues to keep The Queen City yearning for more.
The mayor has constantly been in the community, giving back to the village that helped raise him. He has been able to host community events and partner with different organizations to help build a sense of belonging here in the Queen City.
Through his annual BB13 Fundraiser, he has been able to connect Charlotte FC with the community by providing help and financial assistance to families in need of furniture for their homes. This led to his selection for the Audi Goals Drive Progress Impact Award, where Bed for Kids Charlotte was awarded $40,000 to help support families in the city.
A man of the people. A man to the city. And the mayor to all.
Brandt Bronico is here to stay.
